  1. Hello, as of right now, I'm a 16 year old teenager and starting to looking into getting a first car. My budget is up to around $5000 and recently I've been looking into the Pontiac Firebird. I have to admit I'm not the biggest car enthusiast which is why I've come here. From what I've seen so far, I really have been liking the 1991-2002 Pontiac Firebirds. I wouldn't mind driving and automatic or manual which is why I wanted to ask everybody here a few questions. Which car would be the best to drive for a first car? Are there any major issues that I should worry about them before buying? What would be the preferred amount of mileage to buy at it? Should I swap out any parts as soon as I buy one? If you guys have any other information for me I'd really appreciate. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this and hopefully respond.
  2. 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8L V6 Coupe ———————————————————————— Car was turned on and when put into reverse, brake was not able to be pushed in all the way, while the car did stop, when I put it into drive the car kept moving backwards. I then looked at the dash and saw that the oil light, battery light and low coolant light was on. I then put the car in park and turned it off. I then waited a minute and then was able to put it in neutral in push it back into the parking spot, lights were still on and brake still felt firm. Called a tow truck and when it was started then, the car seemed to run perfectly fine. I don’t know what the problem could be and I don’t feel comfortable driving it. Car has already had a new radiator and battery put in, ive never had this happen before and it’s very weird because multiple things happened at once
  3. I just got a 2002 firebird all stock. I am wondering what are some good mods or additions I can put on the car that are affordable. Please and thank you
  4. I have a rare 2009 Pontiac Solstice coupe for sale. Its 1 of 1266 ever made. Stock black color or “Mysterious” Black." Only 388 units were sold in this color. Has 66,000 miles. Stock everything. I will have more pictures up in the next week once it gets completely detailed.. (By The Way, yes this is a picture off of google. But It looks the exact same and I'd rather have a picture of the exact car than no picture at all) If you're interested let me know I need to sell fast so I might just take low ball offers.. Shoot me an offer.
  5. I have a 99 Grand Am SE with 186K miles on it. It has had its share of problems within the past 6 months. To call it an oil "leak" would be an understatement. The oil is literally dropping right out of the bottom. I have to carry a quart of oil in my car and top it off a bit to get the "low oil" light to come off. The car will drive about 20 miles before the "low oil" light comes on again. I have to refill the oil every time i park and restart the car. A little history: For the 6 years or so, I'm pretty sure I had a head gasket or lower intake valve leak. These engines are known for this. But I was able to easily manage this. This would cause the coolant to slowly leak, and every month I would top off the reservoir. The oil would leak/burn too, but not much - I'd use just a quart in between oil changes. Then within the past couple years, it became progressively worse. The coolant began to leak faster, perhaps weekly, and the car would tend to overheat in the summer - so I had to run the heat in the summer to keep the thermostat level. In the winter, with the heat already running, the engine runs too cool and thermostat never reaches 200 degrees. At one point this winter, my oil was so thick and yellow sludge from not warming up enough. I am probably going to buy a new car at this point, I think it's done. Just wondering what the problem is or if I could plug up the hole somehow at home.

  7. Hi I desperately need help choosing between 5 cars. First off. gas mileage and the price of the vehicle itself isn't a factor. Interior materials and things like that aren't issues for me either. However reliability and sportiness/power do matter to me. I have done my research and found 5 seemingly reliable cars/trucks that are sporty and that I like very much! PROBLEM IS... I CANT CHOOSE WHICH ONE TO BUY! I like how all of them drive and I like how all of them look! Each one has a major selling point to me and here they are: LEXUS IS300: tiptronic with sport mode and paddle shifting buttons that are fun to use. Also reliability from the 2jz engine. 0-60 in 7.4 seconds isn't bad at all. PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP SUPERCHARGED: LOVE LOVE LOVE the supercharger whine! The boost is addicting. Performance shift mode. I personally love how the car looks! 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. MAZDA 6s: nice reliable 3.0L V6 with the 5-speed shiftable automatic! Beautiful blue color with spoiler and "body kit" a website says 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. Infiniti G35 sedan: I like the fact that this car is essentially a Nissan 350z in a dress... 0-60 in 6.1 seconds Chevrolet Trailblazer: I understand that this is an oddball based on the group just given, however... This one is just a feel thing I've always liked the look and feel of the trailblazers but I've been looking more for a sporty car. 0-60 in 7.6 seconds. Any help would be appreciated! I just need someone's opinion who won't say "the Lexus because it's a nicer car" I would appreciate some good solid reasons based in reliability and performance. Thanks again! -Alex
  8. I recently brought my 2005 Pontiac G6 to the mechanic because of a clicking/popping sound that was coming from the front right of my car. Whenever I hit my brakes at low speeds, I'd hear the sound, but it would disappear once I took my foot off the brake pedal and got up to speed. I thought it might be an issue with my tie rods. The mechanic checked out my tie rods, and told me that not only did these need to be replaced but so did my steering rack, bushings, and sway bar ($1500 in repairs for this). I thought this would take care of the issue, but I still hear the sound when I brake. I'm kind of peeved because it cost so much to fix all of this and I'm still having the original problem! Any thoughts? My mechanic said they took a look at the brakes and didn't see any issues - of course, that was not what I thought the problem was so I don't think they spent a lot of time looking at them. (Note: my brakes work just fine and I haven't noticed a change in how the pedal feels. However, last summer my brakes got stuck because the pads, calipers, and lines were completely rusted out without my knowing and they almost caught on fire. I had that all replaced less than a year ago, so I'm slightly worried that it has something to do with that.) Any help would be appreciated! I really don't know much about cars..
  9. I have a stock 2009 Pontiac G6 GT couple and I have bought a cold air intake and a Magnaflow exhaust. Should I a buy a Jet performance chip and how much power gain can I expect with just the intake and exhaust and how much with all 3? It has 219 stock HP. I'm not trying to be a rice burner. I just want it to sound good and have a little power. Thanks
  10. Hey all, in an effort to educate myself and become more self reliant (saving money doesnt hurt) Ive decided to take an active interest in learning more about cars. I drive a 98 pontiac Grand Prix. I just bought it for an in town commute car. So, it seems like a great starting point! I already plan on picking up the appropriate Haynes manual. Also, it helps that I already own a collection of tools (Im handy, just never put that skill into an automobile) So some Q's -I bought this car like two hours ago. What are some things you do immediately after buying a used, high mileage car? Things to check, fluids to flush etc.... -The car runs a but rough (Doesn't effect performance really). From my little knowledge, I think it could be related to a spark plug not firing off. Would you suggest testing them or just replacing the lot as part of a new ownership tune-up? -How hard is it to change brake pads? Thats all for now, but really excited to learn more and work on this thing. Im a big DIY guy, thanks for any help in advance!
  11. Hi Folks, I drive a 2004 Sunfire and recently the brakes have started to just randomly "lock on" while driving. Upon visual inspection I noticed that the gasket for the brake fluid reservoir has holes in it - could the loss of vacuum in the brake system cause this? I have ordered a replacement gasket from Amazon Seems that if I pull over, remove the reservoir lid and reseat the gasket, then let the car sit off for awhile it corrects itself Before this started occurring I had the brakes visually inspected and the car test driven (unrelated) by a mechanic, and he said everything seemed fine Would really appreciate any insight you folks might have Thank you!

  13. I'm looking for a reliable car with decent fuel economy. I've found 2 cars that I like. The first is an 09 Pontiac G5, 44,000km, automatic, coupe, $8000. The second is an 04 Honda Civic, 158,000km, manual, coupe, $4000. I like the looks and the low kms of the G5, but the price of the Civic is hard to beat. What are your thoughts?
  14. Hi i just turned 16 and have started to look at cars to buy. My budget is up to 8k. Two cars i have been interested in are the Pontiac Vibe and the Toyota Matrix. I have done some research and know that they are practically the same (toyota made a deal with pontiac and made the same car) but found two similar deals in my area of residence and cant decide between the two. Heres the link for the Pontiac :http://denver.craigs...2802330271.html. If the link doesn't work then this is what the description says: 2007 Pontiac Vibe, 71,000 miles. Exact same car as the Toyota Matrix. You can expect the reliability of a Toyota. This is a solid car, great brand. Automatic Transmission. Four door. Hatchback liftgate with separate liftglass Large carrying capacity - great for hauling bikes, skis, strollers... Seats in back fold flat, great for car camping - you could even make a bed back there. Air Conditioning, Dual Air Bags, Roof Rack, Sun Roof The front console has a handy 115V plug outlet (that is like a two prong wall outlet). Front wheel drive. New wipers. Tires recently balanced and rotated. Recent oil change. Cautions: Windows and locks are manual; CD player doesn't work (radio does), no back wiper. This car doesn't have bells and whistles but it has a reliable brand. -$6900 The Toyota Matrix i found said its a 2003 matrix xr automatic transmission with 60,000 miles and has a sun roof also. The seller is asking for $7900 but im pretty sure i could bargain him down to $7500. My main delima is that the pontiac is four years newer, a bit cheaper, but has 10,000 more miles and does not have a working cd player (cheap to fix), has manual windows and locks, and has no back wiper. Both cars are in good running condition and seem to have been taken care of well. If anyone knows anything or might have some advice, please comment. Thanks.
  15. I have an '07 Grand Prix that I want to do some work to. I runs good but I am looking to add a little more power under the hood. What kind of performance chips can anyone recommend for this car? Will parts for higher performance models like the GPX work with the base model? I am definitely adding a cold air intake set up but have seen the electric superchargers. Are those worth it?
