  1. Recently I got a 2006 Nissan 350z (Enthusiast trim) with 250,000 miles (mostly highway). The previous owner was quite the stoner, judging by what we found in the various interior compartments during its first detail. After checking around the car, I noticed that the previous owner, let's call him Chad, had installed an aftermarket audio system and subwoofer. Great right? Who doesn't love getting a little extra in their investments? Well, let's just say that Chad was probably high as a kite when he installed this system. The first thing we noticed was that the subwoofer was set to take all frequencies of audio, not just the low ones. In case you didn't know, subwoofers are specifically designed to handle and play the lower sounds in your music. Alright, we said, maybe that was a little dumb but it isn't a huge deal and we can just fix it real quick. Well, as I was finishing up the installation of my first mod (a CAI) we noticed that something looked a little off by the battery. The wiring for the audio system, to be exact. When we took a look at the wires we found a fuse on the negative wire and absolutely nothing on the positive wire. Anyone who has basic electrical knowledge would know just how wrong that is. I was shocked to find out that I had been driving around with such a dangerous fire hazard under my hood. If something had gone wrong with the wiring there would have been absolutely nothing to prevent my car from bursting into flames. I wish I had taken a picture! Of course, we fixed it and all is right now, but man that was something...
  2. I just got a new Kia Sportage 2020. I put in my usb stick with all my music in order to download to my car but I wasn't able to. With my previous Hyundai Sonata with any song I had an option to save to my music through the menu drop down, but with my Kia sportage I wasn't able to locate this, which really surprises me, as this is a basic feature. This is very important to me, since I share the same car with my wife and she likes totally different genre music than me, so that means every time she wants to listen to the music she likes she has to switch artist and album which is extremely frustrating for both of us, whereas with my previous car I was able to download her music directly to car, while my music stayed on usb, thus switching between hers and mine was simple (it was a switch btwn usb and my music). Am I missing something essential here? Any ideas?
  3. I just got a 2006 Mercedes C-Class. It has an old radio+CD. However, I'd like to use the newer formats - Aux, mp3, USB from my phones or USB sticks etc. What options do I have? Optionally, It'd be nice to also use phone to send/receive calls during driving. Is this possible? What are my options? Many thanks!
  4. I have a 2005 Chevy Aveo. The interior lights and radio will not power on. It used to work and we started having electrical problems with the car. Sometimes the air conditioner won't come on but sometimes when it stops working and you hit a bump it will turn on. I have checked the fuses and I am pretty sure that they are not blown. The metal thing inside of the fuse for the radio is still connected. Any ideas on how to fix it? We did have to put a new battery in it a few months ago but I'm pretty sure we had problems before that. If the problem is a short wire how would I fix that? Thanks!
  5. Hi all, I'm doing a bit of research on whether or not music effects the way people drive for college and have put a short survey together with questions related to it. Will post the link below if anyone is interested. All feedback is gratefully recieved! Link removed Thanks!! George
  6. Hi guys, I'm looking at getting my first car for uni and adding better speakers. So my first question is: Ute vs Sedan? I'm trying to decide between going for a 2011 Holden SV6 Ute or the 2011 Holden Commodore SV6 sedan. I just can't decide which to go for however my next question may decide it. Car Audio; firstly, can you install subwoofers in a 2011 Holden SV6 ute? if so what are some decent subs? I know quite a lot in regards to pro audio however I'm a little unsure when it comes to car audio. My budget for audio is around $1000-$1500 One final thing, your probably all going to jump up and down at me saying that a bad car for my first car at uni however i have to regularly drive between Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Cairns - up to 1200km at a time and also i have access to very very cheap finance from the government due to joining the defence force. Cheers for any help guys Chris
