I'm pretty sure that the squealing is caused by the belt tensioner, but I could be wrong. I'm mostly trying to find out if replacing it will help with my other problems. I'm not sure about my engine, I'd have to check.
I have a 2002 Chevy Malibu. It worked great until I was rear ended last year. The condition has been deteriorating since. Anytime I press on the gas there is a loud squealing noise and it is really slow to get up to speed. Also, I can't get it to go over 55 mph on level ground. What could be causing this?
I have already tired replacing the belt and the idler pulley.
