Besides gas, how much does it cost to put 500 highway miles on my car. I'm thinking in terms of maintenance, wear, and depreciation. Here's an example:
I could spend $66 on gas for a 500 mile round trip over a weekend in my Corolla. Alternatively, I could spend $80 for the same round trip with a budget airline (already factoring in cost of getting to airport, parking my car, fees, etc.). Then my question is: should I spend the extra $14 to save mileage on my car or should I stick with driving?
$66 in gas, but put 500 miles on car
$80 to fly, but avoid putting wear on my car.
What if I avoided tolls and could drive for $55?
