Help identifying the problem

I have a 2002 Chevy Malibu. It worked great until I was rear ended last year. The condition has been deteriorating since. Anytime I press on the gas there is a loud squealing noise and it is really slow to get up to speed. Also, I can't get it to go over 55 mph on level ground. What could be causing this?

I have already tired replacing the belt and the idler pulley.

Are you running on all cylinders? Is this the 3.1L V6? The loud squealing could be a water pump, alternator, other accessory belt, anything, but not being able to do 55 sounds like your engine is on its way out.

I'm pretty sure that the squealing is caused by the belt tensioner, but I could be wrong. I'm mostly trying to find out if replacing it will help with my other problems. I'm not sure about my engine, I'd have to check.

ahhhh.... thank you Ma5crmccv5... then, back to work.

Madara i dont think a new belt will solve your acceleration problem.

Drive to the next garage and let them check the error memory.
