Hoogsub95
Hi, it's me again... I have to change my oil again pretty soon here. I use synthetic engine oil for all of my oil changes... today I remembered that some people who change their oil, either put a big neodymium magnet on the filter or the drain plug bolt to catch any metal shavings floating by... So my question, should I try it? Any input is helpful, thanks!
Elite_Deforce
That's new to me but I don't see the benefit since the shavings will be being drained anyway. Also, if your car has shavings in the oil in the first place, that's not too good. Are you sure you didn't see someone draining transmission fluid? Hoogsub95
Elite, I've seen my dad change the ATF in a few cars before and I know most cars will have a magnet to catch stray shavings, but I've also seen drain plugs you can buy that have a strong magnet on the tip of the plug... Adriano, I guess I don't understand, what is FAT with oil change? Thanks! -Brent

Thanks! -Brent I suppose it would help accumulate any shavings when the oil settles into the pan, but I can't see it helping during drainage. johnscar
I have heard of that but I realy don't think theres a need for putting any kind of magnets on the filter or plug on my honda I normally use a good synthetic filter like puralator and a penzzoil synthetic platinum engine oil
