Wally
I love the shifterspringless 5-speed in my RX Your Rx would have a gear ratio train of what, 4.5, 4.1, 3.9, 3.6 and 3.0 with a final drive of 5.9?
2007DBR9
I glad for that... DBR and I actually live it, not dream it, not take photos of cars in shopping centre carparks and make out they are ours. No second hand beaters in these little black ducks' daily drive arsenal eh DBR. . The sad thing is, if you want a car with a big engine and a manual gearbox you pretty much have to buy brand new in the UK. everyone buys automatics. What do you drive Wally? Wally
An automatic I should have changed cars by now, but I'm waiting to see what the next Commodore release is... an LS9 would be nice as a daily drive. I might even have a look at the blown 5.0 if they offer something that doesn't have mid life crisis or boy racer written all over it. Chris V.
Yes it is. Don't listen to those other guys, they must be just teasing. Get over to a Walkinshaw dealership and see what a six speed does when mated to grunter... say the Maloo Ute for instance. just to be fair, final drive ratio is more important in accelleration. The Holden with the 6 liter, 365 hp engine and 6 speed runs 0-60 in 5.3 or so seconds. The HSV with 6.2 liter and 415 hp runs to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and the Mustang GT with the 5 speed and 100 less hp does the same run in 4.6 seconds. So even with much less hp and torque, having fewer gears really doesn't matter in anything other than hyperlegal speeds, as NEITHER car uses the top few gears for accelleration, even in a quarter mile blast. So what you're feeling isn't the 4th, 5th or 6th gear, but 1-3, combined with the multiplication of the final gear ratio. the 6 liter Holden uses a 2.92:1 final drive, the 6.2 HSV uses about a 3.2:1 unit, and the Mustang uses a 3.31 standard, with optional 3.55. 2007DBR9
That's a statistical joke right? Nope, it's true. And I didn't know Wally had an auto LS9 sounds like a brilliant engine, I would love one of them some day! And don't go starting any flame wars or crap like that here. This forum has been free of that kind of thing since I came here so lets keep it that way. If you want to have a go at other people, do it somewhere else. Mate. all would have been good if you hadn't come in and started bagging people out and treating them as inconsequential. You knew my capabilities yet you still picked a fight. This place has been a nice little sanctuary away from the usual ego driven auto forums for me. I'm more than happy to put my guns away, if you are prepared stop flamming, sniping and insulting people. And to clear the air on why I even bothered: Remember the member "Jcutsch" over at the other forum? Well he was subsequently a member here named "Caboose". Remember how much fun you and your comrade Hobo had making him feel uncomfortable and upset... big joke all round by the two dominant posters, a war veteran, a Nasa project manager, a highly successful buisnessman, intensly patriotic to old glory and afflicted with a terrible legacy more than likely from agent orange. Well my friend I was a recipient of the emails and PMs of him expressing his rage, his sense of betrayal at the hands of his countrymen, the health affect.... that's how much influence your embittered and divisive words have on people.. You're 47 years old, you have a lot to offer, you have nothing to prove, you have a opportunity to be part of a forum that can be free of egotism, have a few laughs, tease a little, etc ....why not take up the challenge? Things could be worse for you:- you could be English.

I'm surprised to see you like the LS9 considering it's S/C, I figured you would go for the LS7. Personally I would get an LS7 because I'm sure you would agree, It takes a real person to build/race and N/A car. People lacking do forced induction/ NOS. Having a turbo isn't going to stop me from buying say, a Saab, a TII, an LS9... etc

I was one of the ones that supported his Miata thread. http://www.car-forums.com/talk/showthread.php?t=4091 He and I often tried to educate others: http://www.car-forums.com/talk/showthread.php?t=26703 The only thing I can think of is after he said: A. Lazy or slow learners = automatic B. Industrious or adventurous = manual I got pissed, as the conversation had been had sooo many times before that saying crap like that is ridiculous. And even after that thread, we had great conversations. I went through 4 years worth of threads and could only find that one that had anything negative between us and it was in the middle of the years, not at the end.
