2007DBR9
Well yes, anything with more than 6 gears is stupid. You are honestly suggesting you would buy, say, a GT500 with a 3 speed over a 6 speed if you could?

Chris V.
Well yes, anything with more than 6 gears is stupid. You are honestly suggesting you would buy, say, a GT500 with a 3 speed over a 6 speed if you could? I would buy whichever one is faster, were I in the market for it. I would BUILD whichever is faster for the least money if it were my budget. I would build whichever was more unique and cool and did the job if that was the criteria. I don't tick off little boxed on a checklist of features.

Chris V.
Fair enough! Why do we not get 3 speed cars any more? Most cars are small engine cars that need a lot of gears to accelerate well. And, like everything, when trying to impress the buyer, more is better, right? We also got away from 2 speed automatics a long time ago, except in drag racing where modded 2 speed powerglides are still used on a lot of very quick V8 race cars. Wally
I can't believe what I'm reading. Of course six gears is better in a high powered car. Maybe you don't get that antiquated 1970's neck snap as it drops into the next longest gear, but the performance is very noticeable. Yes they provide a way around emmissions, but it's an elegant solution with the bonus of quicker acceleration and keeping the engine on cam. .... very basic concepts guys, very basic indeed. Pause... It's OK , my head has stop shaking, I don't think I have done any damage.

Wally
Yes it is. Don't listen to those other guys, they must be just teasing. Get over to a Walkinshaw dealership and see what a six speed does when mated to grunter... say the Maloo Ute for instance.

Wally
No you don't, they are marketing spin, they have no useful purpose. A trimatic would be just as good.

bfeeney
I'm going with Wally and DBR on this one (no offence Chris)
Wally
I'm going with Wally and DBR on this one (no offence Chris) I glad for that... DBR and I actually live it, not dream it, not take photos of cars in shopping centre carparks and make out they are ours. No second hand beaters in these little black ducks' daily drive arsenal eh DBR. .
