EVs will likely always struggle to challenge the latter when it comes to pure driving thrills, but have no qualms – they can stimulate in many other ways. There’s the tech for one, and from automation to the regenerative braking borrowed from F1, there’s plenty to nerd out on. Perhaps more important is the eco element, and how, once the infrastructure is there, they should drastically reduce pollution. Whether you want them or not though, the EVs are coming.

 

More electric cars sold in 2021 than in the previous five years combined, and nearly 30,000 new EVs were registered in the UK in November ’22 - a 35 percent increase year on year. Indeed, conventional petrol cars will be banned by 2030, so you’re going to have to get on board sooner rather than later. 2023 is going to help with that. It's the strongest year for EVs yet, with mammoth releases from Tesla, Rolls Royce and even Lotus. These are, in no particular order, the top electric cars of 2023.

 

This is a list of the best new electric cars coming in 2023 (and beyond!)

 

1. Tesla Cybertruck

Yes! We will finally see Tesla's electric pickup truck cruising around the US in 2023. Not just a truck, but a Cybertruck, as they like to call it. Starting from the exterior, the body is made from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless steel, making the truck almost impenetrable. Even the glass is made from a polymer-layered composite, so you can waive any unwanted cracks goodbye!

 

It offers up to 3,500 pounds of payload capacity, a towing capability of 14,000 pounds, adaptive air suspension, and six seats with additional storage under the second-row seats. Also, let's not forget about the 17-inch touchscreen. Last but not least, the Cybertruck can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds and promises up to 500 miles of range. It comes in single, dual, and triple motor versions at $40,000, $50,000, and $70,000 respectively with the addition of a full self-driving option for an additional $10,000.

 

2. BMW i7

Are you ready to catch a ride and go for a movie in this new BMW? Well, you could do both without leaving the car, since the brand-new EV will feature a full-fledged screen behind the driver and front passenger seats for the ultimate viewing experience.

The i7 will have a driving range of around 305 miles, a 120-kWh battery, and a 740-hp tri-motor. With multiple driving assistant features and an interior full of classy additions, there is plenty the BMW i7 has to be jealous of compared to other manufacturers like Tesla. As for the price, the BMW i7 price starts at $119,000.

 

3. Aston Martin Lagonda All-Terrain

 

Could the next James Bond movie feature an all-electric car? It sure could, provided that the Lagonda All-Terrain will have begun production by then. The ultra-luxurious EV was announced as a concept car back in 2019, but we have yet to hear any news about it.

From the pictures released by Aston Martin, it's clear that the interior will be fairly spacious to the point it could fit at least 4 people with room for more. The adjustable seats make it look more like the inside of a fighter jet than a car! The price is yet another unknown aspect, but judging by the looks, the EV won't be affordable to most

4. Audi A6 E-Tron

 

Planned to go into production in 2023, the stunning Audi A6 E-Tron has some pretty cool specs. Apart from its great looks, the manufacturer promises that the car will be able to cover a maximum distance of 435 miles per charge. Talking about charging, the EV will be equipped with a 100kWh battery and will support 270kW fast charging provided the right infrastructure is provided. 

 

Just 10 minutes of charging will net around 186 miles. As for power, the A6 E-Tron will be packing 462 hp as well as a 590 lb-ft of torque, so it's pretty safe to assume that this won't be a weak car.

 

 

5. Fisker Ocean

Henry Fisker was a pioneer of the electric vehicle movement, but never reached the success he hoped for. However, he has been working overtime to create his all-electric SUV called the Ocean, and thanks to a partnership with Magna International in 2020, the Fisker Ocean is now in production and will be ready in 2023.

The Fisker Ocean is a 5-seater SUV, and it will come with various battery packs. The high-end Hyper Range battery will allow the vehicle to travel up to 350 miles on a single charge. Fisker also claims that the Ocean will feature a 'Boost' mode that will unleash 550hp and allow the electric SUV to race from 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds.

 

6. Faraday Future FF91

With production scheduled to begin in quarter three of 2022, the Faraday Future FF91 is one of the most anticipated EVs. The Chinese manufacturer has published some specs, but these may be a bit out of reach. We wish the car can go from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds and have a range of 435 miles, but this will be difficult to achieve.

The powerful sedan will reach a top speed of around 155 mph as well as feature a 130kWh battery that can be fully charged in less than an hour in fast charge mode. We kept the best for last. The engine will output a staggering 1050 hp.

 

7. Jeep Wrangler EV (Magneto)

 

For a fully electric Jeep with Wrangler specs, the Magneto sure looks and sounds pretty attractive to those who love driving on extreme terrains. This concept version of the Wrangler EV will most likely feature a 285-hp electric motor alongside a 6-speed manual transmission.

 

Due to the design, the EV will be equipped with a smaller four-battery pack the capacity of which is currently unknown. As for the price, the electric Jeep is estimated to start at $50,000 for the standard model.

 

8. Toyota Prius

 

 

Although not fully-electric, the Toyota Prius is without a doubt the most popular hybrids of all time. At the recently concluded LA Auto Show, Toyota took the covers of the fifth generation Prius, and we can see that it has undergone a massive transformation.

 

The new Prius certainly looks a lot cooler than before, and it will even get a more powerful hybrid powertrain, and a completely redesigned interior, which is sure to be loaded with the most awesome tech. Power output will now be rated around 194 and 220 horsepower, depending on which variant you choose, but that is a significant improvement from the previous model's very modest 121 horsepower. The 2023 Toyota Prius will feature a lithium-ion battery pack, and apparently it will also get solar panels.
