jason_ding 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2001 I think Ford Escort came about for guys who couldn't get chicks. As for Golf and Jetta, I believe VW gets most of their names from winds. Golf comes from gulfstream, Jetta is the jetstream, and the Passat is some wind too.

Kurenai 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2001 Something I completely left out... I can't believe I forgot about it. The coolest name of all time... (drum roll please) The VW THING!
Kurenai 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2001 You don't know about the THING?! What's wrong with the British education system, when their graduates don't even know about the VW THING! It's a sign of the apocalypse, I tell you...
Kurenai 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2001 That's because it was a WW2 German vehicle. Or rather, was modeled after one. Originally posted by some guy The Germans modeled this vehicle after their WWII Kubelwagen, developing it as a "Type 181", and using it for their own military in the '60s and '70s. Imported to the U.S. market for only two years, there are not too many units still on the road. Most components are from other VW air-cooled models; Karman Ghia chassis, Super Beetle engine, etc., but a few parts are distinctive to this military spec. model. Very good ground clearance , but I don't plan to beat it up off-road, just use it as a cruiser on smooth roadways. Another wonderful THING!
greatwhiteshark000 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2001 Like: -Mustang is a pretty cool name, especially for a sports car with the hp connotation. - Eclipse Spyder: I love my cars name, I am baised, what can I say - Viper: cmon' what a great name for a sports car. - Lightning Rod: cool name, better for a sports car though - Pathfinder: good name for an SUV - Stealth: sounds fast - Grand Prix Dislike: - BMW's Numerical Naming System, and the fact that they look alike doesnt set say a 323i from a 325i to a layman. - Hyundai Tiburon: hu? - Ones you mentioned Names I Don't Understand: - NSX - MR2 (forgot this one) Better name: - King Cobra instead of Cobra R. -

gimpyben 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2001 Nobody mentioned the Aztek? The worst IMO has got to be the Pontiac Le Mans. Can you think of a less fitting name for those little ****-boxes (the 80s ones)?

kiwi 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2001 McLaren F1 = best, History and performance AMC Gremlin = worse
jason_ding 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2001 Haha... the AMC Gremlin is a bad car with an even worse name. Then there's the Chrysler New Yorker. All I can say is that if you drove one of those in New York, you'd be getting beat up by a bunch of rappers in a black S-class.
