Tesla Motors Begins Regular Production of 2008 Tesla Roadster

1-24-08-tesla.jpg

After numerous delays, regular production of the 2008 Tesla Roadster commenced today, marking an historical milestone for Tesla Motors and a watershed in the development of clean, zero-emissions vehicles.

First unveiled as a prototype on July 19th, 2006, the revolutionary Tesla Roadster generated an extraordinary response from people everywhere who were inspired by the vision that beautiful, high performance cars could generate zero-emissions and burn no oil.

Less than 2 years later, this vision has become a reality as Tesla Motors begins production of this breakthrough electric vehicle. The 2008 model year is sold out and Tesla is currently taking reservations for the 2009 model year Tesla Roadster. To date, over 900 Tesla Roadsters have been reserved in total.

Through the course of development of the Roadster, Tesla Motors has established a leadership position in EV technology which it plans to extend over the next years, leading to the introduction of its next model, a five passenger sports sedan, in 2010.

oh yeah… and if you happen to be a pedestrian watch out… these babies are silent people stalkers ;-).

Fisker Karma hybrid sports car generates motor noise through external speakers

Fisker Karma hybrid sports car

Damn your hybrid electric sounds sexy….. well, I have never really heard anyone say that but for those who choose to go electric there may be an option to rev up to the big boy sounds of their gas burning V-8 cousins.

Fisker Karma, the maker of the “$80,000 plug-in hybrid” have hit upon an appropriately high-tech solution: speakers placed inside and out that allow drivers to give their rides any sound they want, including one described as “like something between a Formula One car and a jet plane.” Interesting, to be sure — but seeing as the Karma can hit 125mph and go from 0-60 in six seconds, we’d be happier if that rig just screamed at people to get out of the left lane.

Spied: Next-Generation Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit

vw-golf.jpg

Spies have caught the next-generation Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit in testing. Both the two- and four-door versions were photographed.

Although sales of the new 2007 model Rabbit just recently started here in the United States, European sales of the Golf have apparently been lagging, and manufacturing time is nearly twice as long as other cars in its class.

Recent reports suggest orders from management are to simplify and shorten the assembly process, and produce the next “generation” on the current but updated platform — with, of course, considerable cost-cutting savings. And, in the process, giving it a more exciting and slightly more aggressive look.

Sources close to Volkswagen believe the next generation Golf will reach European dealerships in late 2008, or 2009 — but American’s will have to wait a bit longer to purchase what will commonly be known nearly everywhere as the Golf VI.
