New shoes for the Stang...

04 May 2012 - 08:48 AM

Just arrived Wednesday and I bolted them up last night for some photos...

And, this morning in the parking lot....

BOSS 338s in 20x8.5 and 20x10 with 245/40 and 275/40 BFG G Force Sport Comp 2s. Ride is great, and the turn-in is crisper than the stock Pirellis, plus loads more grip. Since it isn't a race car, but more of a cruiser, I wasn't worried to much about the loss of a couple thousandths of a second in accelleration... Posted Image And the speedo is spot on now (it actually read a bit high with the stockers). I wanted a modern take on a retro design, much like the car itself is.

Next up is the CDC Shaker hood scoop this weekend and possibly the '70 BOSS 302 style stripes.

I can't descide on stripes for the Mustang...

As spring starts to apear on the horizon and a year going to go by with the Mustang, I want to start tweaking on the Mustang in order to keep interest in it. I've got power and suspension mods planned, but I'm having a hard time deciding on cosmetic mods. I've got the BMW to be subtle and classy with (and am toning down the exhaust on that car to be more subtle sounding), and I want the Mustang to be a bit more brash. To that end, I'm enlisting you guys to help me look at the two competing ideas with new eyes, as I like them both. These are sucky 5 minute photoshops I did this morning to show you what I'm thinking of...

First up, the traditional white stripes. Would also have a lower front spoiler in body color withthe stripes going across it. This would be the cheaper option, but probably too common:

10" wide pearl white stripes (paint, not vinyl) with 2" of separation. Would continue down the decklid and over the rear bumper, as well. Wheels are BOSS 338s in grey.

Next up, the contender, and what I originally wanted to do. A bit more expensive, but more subtle. BOSS 302 stripes and a shaker scoop:

Again, in paint, not vinyl, though not sure if I want to do gloss black or semi-flat black. Same wheels as before, of course ( I love them). Shelby rear spoiler in black as well as the chin spoiler, and a blacked out taillight panel would round it off.

In both cases, I'm also thinking of moving the fog lights inward to the center, like the '67 Shelby Mustang.

Chevy Code 130R

09 January 2012 - 01:04 PM

New RWD Alpha platform car that shares chassis with the new Caddy ATS.

"The Code 130R is a rear-wheel-drive, four-seat coupe wearing what Chevrolet describes as “heritage performance–inspired styling” with flared fenders, straight sides, and crossflag emblems. It resembles a shrunken Camaro with some sweet 20-inch matte anodized gold wheels. The Code 130R casts a shadow roughly the same size as and has proportions similar to the BMW 1-series, and it’s slightly larger than the Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S twins. (We’ve heard this concept shares its platform with the Cadillac ATS; the two have identical wheelbase measurements of 109.3 inches.) Power comes from a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with eAssist mild-hybrid technology; the engine itself makes 150 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque, a slight bump from the 1.4-liter turbo in other GM products. A six-speed auto would be standard and a six-speed manual offered as an option."

I really like this, and with the RWD turbo 4, it's a throwback to the cool lightweight RWD coupes of the '70s and early '80s, much like the Subaru BRZ and Toyota/Scion FR-S. I'd like to see it with 16" or 17" wheels instead of the showcar giant wheels, but I approve of the upright roofline with more window area to see out of. If they can build it very close to the concept (i.e. still light, still styled the same) I might even buy one.

Lol! I have two of the cars on this list...

Doomsday drives: 5 perfect cars for the apocalypse

On this, the day that some believe will mark the apocalypse, there may only be a few hours left to own the car of your dreams. We recommend you buy on credit, not cash.
But what to get? If you're going to go out in style, you want the perfect doomsday drive. Here's our top 5:
  • Ferrari F430. You'll have to prowl the pre-owned lot for one, but it's well worth it. They went out of production a couple of years ago, replaced by the 458. We got to take an F430 for a spin around a speedway a few years ago and we couldn't have been more impressed at its quickness and agility. Of course, the big drawback on Ferraris is their maintenance schedules, but with the last day upon us, not a lot of worry about that.
  • Rolls-Royce Ghost. The Phantom is just too big and showy, so for a grand sedan for those who want to travel in style and comfort for their final hours, it's hard to beat a Ghost. Nothing but the best here. Silky-smooth ride. Utter silence to ponder your past misdeeds. And a price tag around $300,000.
  • Ford Mustang. We love the Mustang. It was our first car. Sure, it's hard to see it on the list after a Ferrari and a Rolls, but the Mustang is everything you love (or should we say "loved") about America. Get the V-8, a smokin' hot engine and take the car out to a burger stand. Perfect place for a last meal.
  • Lexus LFA. This car represents the best that Japan has, or ever did, have to offer in a sports car. You just want to admire its racy looks and drink in its 552 horsepower, all for about $375,000. Go out in style.
  • Mini Cooper. If you're credit rating isn't looking so strong, you can always get a Mini. Don't opt for the bigger models, just stick with the original. With its sharp styling and the wheels pushed to the edges of the car, you'll appreciate its terrific handling.
