I want to add that Ive driven the vehicle at least 700 miles since the install less than 2 weeks back. Its a 87 VW Cabriolet so it doesnt have all the fancy smog systems other than the o2 sensor and basic cat. As for the leaks there all around the welds with some about 1 - 2 cm slits in size, also 1 crack on the tip of the cat where they swegded it instead of welding in a new piece of pipe. I'm trying to get the shop to put a new one on after the other shops said its most likely damaged but i just want to be sure its damaged, any help would be appreciated! Thanks
Will a poor weld job damage my catalytic converter?

I just had a shop replace my catalytic converter for the second time only after they installed a faulty one the first time. The second converter though has exhaust leaks all over it from a poor weld job. Ive taken it to a few different shops and they all said that there can also be possible damage to the converter from fresh air entering the system. I just want a second opinion from the web and I cant find a site or link saying that it can be damaged from leaks.
