There are some signs that the auto scene is comming to its senses about electric cars and hybrids.
With several small cars comming on line that gets really good mileage, people are seeing that the cost and disadvantages of electrics and hybrids really are not worth the problems they bring.
Example that could be followed. Even years ago we had high mileage cars. My son owns and drives a Geo Metro 80 miles to and from work every day. Is it a mini Caddy, of course not. It is a 3 cyl stick shift, and regularly get 48mpg driving 60mph. He doesnt have to worry about wether his batteries will last the whole day, or about the replacement cost when they wear out. Also unlike hybrids or full electric cars in a wreck it wont be a haz-mat situation, or catch on fire.
Good signs

EVS are the future, and the infrastructure around them is getting more and more robust all the time, much like teh expansion of the gasoline infrastructure did in teh early part of the 20th century.
Oh, and yes, a gasoline powered car in a wreck is both a hazmat situation AND a huge fire risk. Or are you of the opinion that gasoline doesn't burn?

A commenter on a piece I recently did about the Tesla Model S brought up a good point though, cold kills batteries.

Oh this scenes are quite horrible...! the first time I saw things like this was when I was in Arizona and that was really worst than this because the driver died inside that car.
