We’ve all known for quite a while that Lamborghini was in the center of developing a drop-top version of these newest supercar, the Aventador LP700-4. But what we didn’t know, at least so far, was if the Aventador Spyder was planning to make its world debut. Properly, based on a source that spoke to Teamspeed, the Italian automaker has recently booked the dates for the Aventador Spyder’s grand unveiling at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show this coming March.

The standard Aventador is equipped with a strong V12 engine producing 700 HP at 8,250 rpm and 509 lb-ft at 5,500 rpm. This same powerhouse will be dropped into the Spyder, whose added soft top roof will pack on a few more pounds and reduce the performance figures just a tad. That translates into a 0-60mph sprint time a shade within the coupe’s 2.9 seconds.

To all this we say: March certainly can’t come soon enough.
