I'd really like my next car to be a mid nineties C-Class, only trouble is that I prefer manual gearboxes over auto ones, and Merc made clonky and rubbish manual boxes until like 2004...It would only be a C180 mind, lol.

The C180 was not a bad car, and it had a decent enough auto. Even the manuals werent too bad. Bear in mind it will be really expensive to fix though

Question - how do you go through so many cars?

The maintenance isn't an issue, as I still have a really good connection in the trade, thus only costing me the price of parts. I've driven lots of manual Mercs of that era, and in my opinion they are all clonky, although it really can't get much more clonky than the Peugeot I drive now, so I'd probably still get a manual, lol.

I get through lots of cars because of two things really. Firstly I always spend the bare minimum on a car, and secondly, I get bored.

Why not spend a bit more, get something really nice, and keep it??

Because that defeats the purpose of being an enthusiast.

I rarely only keep cars for 2-months. I've had the 306 for at least 3 thus far...

DBR, if I get a C-Class, I'll be spening at least twice what I normally do, and that should last me at least a year!

I just look in the bargain sections of papers and online etc. The Mondeo was advertised as "needs work"....normally I'd run a mile at reading that, but on calling the old boy that owned it, I established the worst fault was the central locking didn't work as the fuse had been removed due to the alarm activating all the time. Other than that it was all cosmetic. (I replaced the fuse and had no issues with the alarm.). Least I've spent is £125 on a Mk2 Golf Driver. All that was wrong with it was slight damage to the tailgate due to a low speed collision. When I came to sell it, I got £500 for it...Most profit I've made, too, lol.

There are some really good finds in the bargain sections - my Cavalier came from there!

Can't say I have ever made a profit on any of my cars though

I rarely make a profit (or not one as much as the Golf anyway...).
