  1. Last Tuesday when I was driving to work, my battery light popped on and I lost power steering. I was maybe a mile from work so I decided to try to make it there and park. Half a mile later the car started to overheat so I pulled over and turned it off. I had it towed home and was told my serpentine belt had broken. Sure enough, the belt was gone. I bought a new one and put it on, but now the car won't start. I tried jumping it, but that didn't work. Should I try replacing the alternator? The car is a 2004 Chevy Impala with the 3.4L engine.
