My friend has a 98 GT and he modded the exhaust. Actually we turned into ghetto mechanics and did it our selves. He got the exhaust pipes and mufflers from MAC exhaust and he used an X pipe from Dr. Gas. The X pipe has no cats on it. The six that usually come with stangs, and the check engine light came on because othe the O2 sensor. Thats ok, because he has a computer thing that will tell him the code for the problem and he can erase it.

Oh and one day the X pipe one side came off and we went from cruisin to nascar loud scary at first but fun later on. Just had to be careful, with no backpressure the rpm's were flying and we didn't want to burn up any valves! biggrin.gif

I prefer an "I" pipe - no weird ****, just a piece of metal that goes from the headers to the *** end of the car.

True duals(I I).

Go for the X-Pipe... Get a decent muffler and go have the rest of your system done at a shop.

the bassani x pipe's are really good ( significant power improvement ), so i would most certainly recommend one of those. team that with some hooker competition headers, and a borla exhaust... youll have an evil sounding stang man...

Sidepipes! Sidepipes!

Try and find a company that manufactures a system that dumps the exhaust out of some giant polished sidepipes! biggrin.gif

Sound or performance? If it's performance read the article in Hot Rod about "X" pipes. Apparently they make a significant increase over "H" pipes in the dyno results. I think it was the May issue (says on the cover)

Sound wise, since the "X" pipe does a better job of scaveging instead of 'equalizing' as the "H" pipe will do, that I can't be certain on. If it performs better, more flow should mean a better sound. My exhaust of choice is Borla after I heard it on an LS1, but I want to try Edelbrocks.

i personally dont like the sound of edelbrock mufflers..they dont have any character IMO. flowmasters are raspy, borlas are throaty etc etc.. the edelbrock sound is just pretty dull IMO.

I hate to preface things with 'performance' in mind because I just repeat myself all the time. While Borla has wonderful sound, My first goal in all of my vehicles is performace, at least, the ones I race. Edelbrock does flow more CFM than all major name brands. That comes back to exhaust backpressure, which I allready stated in another post. You really don't beed that much. A stock 350 Chev needs only 4 pounds of backpressure! When you start getting up to 4,5, and 6 hundred horsepower backpressure will only hinder you, which is why I run straight headers in a race, when I can't do that I have to get the most flow out the mufflers to keep my engine from choking, so Edelbrock would be my first choice in performance, if I just wanted great sound and good flow then I'd go with Borla.

Once again, if you haven't heard Borla's (on a nice engine) wow go find someone and revv it up. Sweetums!
